Open-access Solidary economy practices as an alternative for income generation in the quilombola community of Furnas do Dionísio, MS

Abstract

The Solidary Economy considers self-management and collectivity as a possibility of promoting a socioeconomic model that is distinct from capitalism. Several cases point out how practices in this sense promote income generation in traditional communities. In this sense, the objective of this text is to understand the collective organization, based on the solidarity economy, of the quilombola community Furnas do Dionísio, in Jaraguari, Mato Grosso do Sul. The research is qualitative, and the data were collected through visits and conversations with the representative of the local group that manages tourism activities, being studied through content analysis. The results highlight the group’s management practices that value horizontality and equal distribution of work. These practices materialize from the group’s common goals and revolve around the shared provision of local tourism activities. The solidary economy managing tourism activities proves to be an interesting way to discuss improvements in living conditions and increased income generation in rural communities in the state.
