The Regional Development Indicator in the Tocantins Region

Abstract:

This paper aims to analyze the regional development of the State of Tocantins, on the basis of the elaboration of the Regional Development Indicator (RDI) from 2000 to 2010, with secondary data. The main results suggest that the RDI of the region of the Tocantins State, which had 139 municipalities in 2000, only 15 were classified as development poles, 34 in the intermediate stage, and 90 in the late stage. It was concluded that there was an improvement in RDI in all regions of Tocantins State; however, in the municipalities along the BR-153 (Belém-Brasília High Way), economic activities were more dynamic.
