The impact of industrialization on the urbanization process in Jacareí, SP

Abstract

The municipality of Jacareí, SP, presents an urban spot that houses a diversified and industrial park. This article focuses on analyzing the effect of industrial growth on the urbanization process in the city of Jacareí, SP. The study was developed considering the qualitative documentary approach and presents a theoretical study and bibliographic review. Among the results, it is observed that the process of implementing industries in the municipality constitutes an element that induces the occupation and growth of the urban area since the decline of the coffee economy at the end of the 19th century.The inauguration of President Dutra Highway in 1951 represented a new vector that started to guide the development of the municipality, whose expansion followed in the direction of the new highway and along the roads connecting the central core with Dutra. It was identified a scenario of industrial expansion and urban planning intensified by the movement towards the interior of the industry and the proximity to São José dos Campos.
