Open-access Elements of daily management and the local development: the voice of the recyclable material collectors collective in Uberlândia, MG

Abstract

Experiences, alternative social interactions, and new forms of management, often localized, have gained prominence in debates surrounding the development theme, especially for representing a transformative and differentiated condition in the generation of work and income. In this context, the aim of this study was to comprehend, through the collective of recyclable material collectors, the establishment of the principles of solidarity economy (SE) in the ordinary/daily management and local development of four solidarity economy enterprises (SEE) located in the city of Uberlândia, MG. The research was characterized as qualitative approach, conducted through semi-structured interviews with recyclable materials collectors. The analysis of these interviews was carried out through the collective subject discourse (CSD). As a result, it was found that, through the social commitment, economic activity, and democratic management, the SEE play an important role in local development, especially when it comes to social commitment and economic activity. They also maintain the principles of SEE when it comes to social commitment and democratic management of enterprises. Despite some particularities, in the ordinary management process, the collectors act in local development and in the dissemination of SE principles, which play an integrative role and provide a dignified life for these workers.
