Open-access Social Vulnerability Index: an economic analysis in the municipalities of Mato Grosso do Sul from 2000 to 2023

Abstract

The Secretary of Social Assistance and Human Rights of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul conducted a field survey covering all municipalities, aiming to evaluate the Social Vulnerability Index for the year 2023. In this context, this article analyzed the unpublished data obtained, which were compared with initiatives from previous years, establishing a historical series. After the analysis, it can be stated that there was a reduction in vulnerability between 2000 and 2010, followed by a reversal until 2023. Despite this, in the comparison between 2000 and 2023, Mato Grosso do Sul reduced vulnerability in most municipalities. Urban infrastructure was the most critical dimension. Significantly high economic growth between 2000 and 2010 apparently contributed to the reduction of vulnerability, but since then the magnitude of growth has reduced. It is recommended to prioritize improvements and massive investments in urban infrastructure to reduce the state's vulnerability.
