Open-access Analysis of agricultural products with potential for “Quilombos do Brasil” certification in communities in Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract

The “Quilombos do Brasil” seal represents the recognition of the social identities of these communities, with special attention to access to production and consumption circuits and appreciation and added value to their products. The objective of this study was to identify whether quilombola communities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul have agricultural products with potential for the identification of origin and certification of Quilombos do Brasil. To this end, research was carried out in accordance with the so-called mixed approach using a questionnaire via Google Forms, consisting of thirty descriptive questions. The questionnaire was sent to different quilombola communities in the state, obtaining feedback from 23 communities distributed in 18 municipalities. As a result, it was found that the quilombola communities analyzed have agricultural products with certification potential, although none have the Quilombos do Brasil seal. Among the barriers identified to obtaining this certification, respondents highlight bureaucracy and lack of information. It is concluded, therefore, that although the relevance of adopting the Quilombos Seal of Brazil is recognized, it is essential that there is greater dissemination and guidance from institutions so that a greater number of communities can acquire it.
