  • PRIMARY CARE APPOINTMENT SYSTEMS: CAUSES AND IMPLICATIONS OF TIMELY ARRIVALS. Original Article

Alibeiki, Hedayat; Kumar, Chetan; Ballard, Jim; Willis, Deanna R.; Given, Scott; Taylor, Jennifer

    Resumo em Inglês:

ABSTRACT The primary goal of this study was to identify potential factors that might contribute to patient punctuality issues, while also assessing the satisfaction of a proposed intervention. In addition, we aimed to learn more about the psychosocial and behavioral implications that patients face with regards to arriving on time for their primary care visits. A mixed-method research study was used to identify and quantify potential factors that might contribute to patient punctuality issues, while also assessing the satisfaction of a proposed intervention. In addition to possible factors that contribute to punctuality, we aimed to learn more about how patients are affected when they arrive late for appointments. Through qualitative assessment, we explored the psychosocial and behavioral implications that patients face with regards to arriving on time for their primary care appointments. A total of 524 individuals out of 1050 patients (50%) responded to the paper-based survey. Of the 524 adult respondents, we excluded 103 (19.7%) participants due to the missing data on either of their historical behavior patterns, future intentions for arrival, or their definition of appointment time. We analyzed the data for the remaining 421 eligible survey participants. In addition, seven of the eight patient interviews were transcribed and analyzed in order to identify themes using the patient’s own words to better understand the psychosocial and behavioral implications patients face on arriving to their appointment on time. Three primary themes emerge in the interviews related to the perception of arriving late to appointments at the FMC. The findings of this study indicate that regardless of patients’ interpretation of appointment time, they typically arrive 10-15 minutes before the appointment time. In addition, there is a significant connection between patients’ perceptions of historically arriving late to appointments and the intent to arrive very early to their future appointments. Combined with the qualitative results, this study suggests that most patients are motivated to be on time, in some cases seeing the idea of lateness as a contradiction of their own self-identity. The behavioral causes and implications of the findings are explained using the concept of Fear Appeals and the Protection Motivation Theory (PMT).

  • UNDERSTANDING THE IMPORTANCE OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS IMPLEMENTATION IN ORGANIZATION’S EFFECTIVENESS: A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON TWO SWEDISH ORGANIZATIONS Original Article

    Skagne, Felix; Dalipi, Fisnik

    Resumo em Inglês:

ABSTRACT Information systems (IS) exist in order to intensify the information flow within an organization, at all levels, specifically to allow set of data to reach the designated person, in the right format, and at the right time, generating a positive and beneficial contribution to the organization. Therefore, it is essential to investigate their intended purpose and how they affect the organization's effectiveness in particular. This paper aims to investigate two different implementations of information systems in two organizations and understand the impact these implementations have on the respective organization’s effectiveness. We use three antecedents, namely, time-saving, workload, and system reliability, to distinguish users’ perceptions and experience with the system and how they affect the organization’s effectiveness. An interpretative method is used, due to the paradigm’s focus on social constructions and human interpretations to explain reality. The result of the findings shows that the implementation of a new IS has a greater impact on an organization’s effectiveness, compared to an older system that gets updated and add-ons. By comparing diversities between different implementations of information systems, focusing on how the chosen approach affects the effectiveness in each organization, a better grasp, and understanding of an area that lacks research and attention is highlighted.

    Resumo em Inglês:

ABSTRACT In the development of projects that aim at management and editorial evaluation methods, mechanisms that foster the product’s quality final have great importance. In this scenario, several areas are working together in search of better adequacy and standardization in software development. A basic example is the adequations of evaluation of software engineering and computer networks, which work, so that distributed applications are developed following evaluation criteria and standardized quality standards. In this context, we present the DASP software, an open-source distributed autonomous scientific publisher executed through an allowed blockchain network, automatically organized through intelligent contracts, an alternative to the decentralized management of editorial models. As a form of evaluation, one of the most current standards used by the international organization for standardization (ISO) to perform software quality measurements, ISO/IEC 25023, is adopted. Furthermore, we focused on the security aspect, which is one of the categories of ISO/IEC. This aspect was chosen because it was based on the main features that underpin blockchain technology. The quality measurement was carried out following several steps, such as the definition of ISO/IEC 25023, an adaptation of metrics for DASP software evaluation, calculations of the quality value of each functionality, and determination of recommendations for improvements in the software according to the estimates made.

  • CONSUMER BEHAVIOR TOWARDS TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW Review Article

Vieira, Kelly Carvalho; Pinto, Guilherme Alcântara; Sugano, Joel Yutaka

    Resumo em Inglês:

ABSTRACT One of the biggest challenges facing technology innovation companies is how to jump from a small group of enthusiasts and achieve mass sales. For this, many theories are extended trying to explain the different behavioral profiles. Therefore, the objective of this article is to analyze the studies on consumer behavior of technological innovations, synthesize the main concepts on this theme, and outline an overview of how this field is configured. To this end, a systematic review, first in the research front and then in intellectual base was performed. The results indicate a dynamic of articles with more than one model or hybrids that seems to be a trend towards complementing the already consolidated factor theoretical models. This fact implies that these theories are failing to accurately explain the factors that influence a technology to push visionary customers to mass demand.

Soares, Vinícius Gomes; Álcazar, José Jesús Pérez; Ludena, Mercy Escalante

    Resumo em Inglês:

ABSTRACT Surveys related to analytics in the area of human resources (HR) have increased in the last 10 years. They usually suggest frameworks, tools, and concepts. Although there is much useful information, there is still a lack of materials consolidating real case studies or quantitative experiments with HR data. This systematic review analyzes 42 papers with analytical experiments in terms of three different segments of HR: recruitment, talent management, and turnover. The goal is to offer an updated perspective of what is being applied in HR regarding the problems that can be solved with data analysis, the most used techniques, and what could be explored to promote more scientific research on data-oriented projects in HR. Some of the results include talent management as the segment with the most related papers and the use of companies’ internal data as predominant in the studies.
