BEFORE PEER REVIEW: TO PUBLISH OR NOT TO PUBLISH ? THAT IS THE QUESTION !
In 2000, The Journal of Venomous Animals and Toxins launched a new site Before peer review to bring you scientific publication more quickly. This makes papers available on the Web while they are undergoing peer review; papers are automatically removed on completion of peer review process. Authors are fully responsible for the contents of their manuscripts.
JVATs Editors expected that most authors would embrace this new idea, but surprisingly, only 16.6% of authors agreed.
Are the authors afraid of piracy or of not having scientific approval from their peers?
The Journal of Venomous Animals and Toxins is continuing to support this project. Only time and you will tell whether it is a success or not.
