HOUSE OF FAMILY (FAMILY HOME) AND HOUSE OF PROSTITUTION (BROTHEL): MEANINGS COLLISION THAT DIVIDE THE CITY

Abstract

This work intend to comprehend how the word casa (house) signifies in the utterances of subjects that live and transit in the neighborhood Jardim Itatinga (Campinas-SP), a place famous as a prostitution zone. Interviews made between 2016 and 2017 with residents, male and female workers, and traders/shop owners in the neighborhood constitute the corpus. Furthermore, statements are selected from the news item Prostitutas são atendidas pela Igreja Católica (Prostitutes are assisted by the Catholic Church) (Folha de São Paulo, 1981); also, as a memory trajectory for the word casa (house), the main analytical point of this work, the work resorts to a group of Portuguese Dictionaries. This research is inscribed in the Event semantics (Semântica do Acontecimento), developed by Eduardo Guimarães (2005, 2007, 2009, 2010).
