RECONSTRUCTING SOME TOPICS IN CRITICAL THEORY: CONTRIBUTION TO THE DEBATE ON FASCISM

Abstract

This article discusses some aspects developed by Critical Theory on the evolution of fascism in opposition to traditional Marxist interpretations of Frankfurtian authors. It shows how Critical Theory’s examination of fascism is not reduced to psychological considerations on the subject, nor does it disregard class relations for the development of the phenomenon. Conversely, the paper indicates how the relations between the individual and society and transformations within class relations are essential elements of Critical Theory’s analyses of fascism. Finally, the article proposes an analysis of the current Brazilian scenario based on the reexamination of these aspects.
