Abstract
The article discusses how after the Cuban Revolution a certain idea of Latin America is created. I use specially the article “Calibán” (1971), by Roberto Fernández Retamar, as a point of observation to relate to other views about Latin America which also used The Tempest, by William Shakespeare. As a specific aim, I explore the relationship between the Latin-American identity created by the Cuban Revolution, where Caliban has a decisive role, and Brazil. I deal, thus, with a process of ideas circulation not very studied, the one between peripherical countries.
