Abstract
In this article, we present and publish the transcription and the digitalized copies of three letters written by Mário de Alencar to José Veríssimo, right after Machado de Assis's death. These letters contextualize the transmission of the Machadian legacy to the Brazilian Academy of Letters in 1908, when some of his intellectual estate was received by the institution. The letters reveal particularities of the material and documents currently missing.
