Open-access Crises, memories, faith and materialities in the museum of removals

In this work, I analyze the experience of the Museu das Remoções (MdR), a social museology project created in the Vila Autódromo community, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, one of the locations affected by evictions resulting from mega sporting events (2014 World Cup, 2016 Olympics) in the city. Using the example provided by the Museu das Remoções, I mobilize an anthropological reflection on ways and means of producing memories and generating meanings for life after a critical event (Das 1995), with emphasis on forms of intervention in physical space and in the political and symbolic dispute about the meanings of the memory of violence. I propose that looking at the MdR experience by mobilizing the interconnected themes of crises, memories, faith and materialities makes it possible to multidimensionalize social processes, desubstantializing the understanding of the forms of production of agency in the face of political dispute and violence.
