Passionate Detachment: Subjectivity, Politics and Pandemic

In 2020, the world was hit by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The resulting economic and health crisis brought a series of issues concerning this century's society, the global system, and that has a significant impact on the subjectivity of the modern subject, especially regarding sociability and politics. Therefore, this paper aims to interpret some aspects brought to light by the current crisis involving the symbolic anchoring of subjectivities. Mobilizing multidisciplinary literature of sociology, psychoanalysis, and political theory, with special attention to authors whose theories somehow unify these spheres, like Cornelius Castoriadis and Slavoj Žižek, the paper is structured in three main and interdependent questions: the historical dimension of temporality and the subjective relationship with time; the correlation between the social imaginary and the dimensions of otherness and sociability; the problem of symbolic anchorage and the need for political action in a crisis context.
