Resumo A produção do artista plástico Armando Queiroz abrange questões políticas amazônicas por meio de objetos, instalações e performances artísticas. A partir de um diálogo entre artes visuais, antropologia e semiótica, e de uma leitura da colonialidade e do necropoder, neste ensaio discutiremos cinco obras marcantes de sua trajetória e relacionadas entre si em dois momentos: primeiro, a videoarte “252” (2009-2010) e o objeto “Documentos” (2009-2010), centrados especialmente na tragédia que ficou conhecida pelo nome de Brigue Palhaço ocorrida em Belém do Pará em 1823. Na sequência, a videoarte “Ymá Nhandehetama – Antigamente fomos muitos” (2009) e as instalações “Cântico Guarani” (2010) e “Tupambaé” (2010), que tratam de questões relacionadas aos povos indígenas e seu apagamento histórico e político. Nessas obras, Queiroz trata de questões referentes à necropolítica e aos corpos marcados pela colonialidade. Compreendemos o seu trabalho pela ótica da resistência e da decolonialidade e discutimos como ele auxilia na construção de novas imagens e imaginários sobre essas temáticas.

Abstract The work of artist Armando Queiroz covers Amazonian political issues through objects, installations and artistic performances. Based on a dialogue between the visual arts, anthropology and semiotics, and a reading of coloniality and necropower, in this essay we will discuss five outstanding works from his career that are related to each other in two moments: firstly, the video artwork “252” (2009-2010) and the object “Documentos” (2009-2010), centred especially on the tragedy that came to be known as Brigue Palhaço, which took place in Belém do Pará in 1823. This was followed by the video artwork “Ymá Nhandehetama – Antigamente fomos muitos” (2009) and the installations “Cântico Guarani” (2010) and “Tupambaé” (2010), which deal with issues related to indigenous peoples and their historical and political erasure. In these works, Queiroz deals with issues relating to the necropolitics imposed on bodies marked by coloniality. We understand his work as decolonial resistance and discuss how it helps to construct new images and imaginaries about these issues.

Referências Na Idade Média, as relíquias não eram apenas objetos de culto e veneração, eram o medium através do qual o sagrado se manifestava de maneira privilegiada e ao redor do qual a vida social se construía. O objetivo deste artigo é propor uma leitura comunicativa das relíquias, o que implica compreender as relíquias como res sacrae, como medium do sagrado. Para tanto, este artigo se desdobra em cinco eixos reflexivos complementares: o papel das relíquias no surgimento do culto aos santos; a questão das materialidades das relíquias; a capacidade das relíquias de provocar a mobilidade do sagrado; a questão da vida social das relíquias; e, por fim, uma discussão sobre as controvérsias e o declínio das relíquias. Os elementos que emergem dessa reflexão sugerem que a relíquia, enquanto medium, não é apenas uma instância neutra utilizada como instrumento de poder pelas elites religiosas, mas sim um elemento mediador cuja materialidade foi fundamental para a construção do imaginário religioso da época.

Abstract In the Middle Ages, relics were not merely objects of worship and veneration; they were the medium through which the sacred manifested itself in a privileged way and around which social life was built. The purpose of this article is to present a communicative interpretation of relics, which implies understanding them as res sacrae, as a medium of the sacred. To accomplish this, the article unfolds into five complementary reflective axes: the role of relics in the emergence of the cult of saints; the question concerning the materiality of relics; the capacity of relics to evoke the mobility of the sacred; the question of the social life of relics; and finally, a discussion on the controversies and decline of relics. The elements that emerge from this reflection suggest that the relic, as a medium, is not merely a neutral instance used as a tool of power by religious elites, but rather a mediating element whose materiality was crucial in shaping the religious imagination of the time.

RESUMO Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo traçar uma análise sobre as cotas eleitorais e seu impacto nas candidaturas e eleições de mulheres negras nas eleições para deputadas federais. A literatura que versa sobre a participação feminina na política aponta para a sub-representação, mesmo com as dinâmicas de inserção de leis, cotas e mudanças nas regras eleitorais. Cruzados com a questão racial, os dados apontam que a sub-representação é ainda mais adversa. Portanto, buscamos identificar quais mulheres autodeclaradas negras conseguiram se eleger em 2014, 2018 e 2022 e como os modelos normativos, mediante as cotas e minirreformas, oportunizaram estas vitórias. Como resultado, percebemos que em 2014 foram eleitas 80,4% brancas e 19,6% negras; em 2018, 81,8% brancas e 16,9% negras; e no ano de 2022, 63,7% brancas e 31,9% negras. O recorte racial é um divisor, e mais que isso, pois, ao representar a inclusão, reforça a permanência velada de um país racista.

ABSTRACT This research aims to provide an analysis of electoral quotas and their impact on the candidacies and elections of black women in elections for federal deputies. The literature that deals with female participation in politics points to underrepresentation, even with the dynamics of introduction of laws, quotas and changes in electoral rules. Crossed with the racial issue, the data shows that underrepresentation is even more adverse. Therefore, we sought to identify which self-declared black women managed to be elected in 2014, 2018 and 2022 and how normative models through quotas and mini-reforms created opportunities for these victories. As a result, in 2014, 80.4% white and 19.6% black representatives were elected; in 2018, 81.8% white and 16.9% black; and in 2022, 63.7% white and 31.9% black. The racial profile is a divide, and more than that, for, at the same time as it represents inclusion, it reinforces the veiled permanence of a racist country.

Resumo Este artigo examina a migração forçada da América Central e critica a resposta dos Estados Unidos, questionando a eficácia dos métodos de controle fronteiriço, especialmente os biométricos. Ele explora dois programas dos EUA no México, Frontera Sur e Remain in Mexico. A revisão analisou a literatura sobre estudos críticos de segurança e migração, com foco em produções mexicanas. Os resultados indicam diversas medidas empregadas pelos EUA para dissuadir migrantes indesejados, incluindo o uso de fronteiras biométricas para reforçar a segurança e a implementação de critérios raciais e sociais para permitir ou impedir a passagem de determinados indivíduos. A análise dos programas Frontera Sur e Remain in Mexico revela uma externalização das fronteiras dos EUA ao transformar o México em um estado tampão, o que dificulta os fluxos migratórios e cria uma fronteira vertical que impede a jornada dos migrantes em direção ao norte. O artigo conclui que essas medidas violam os direitos humanos dos migrantes, limitando sua mobilidade e sua busca por refúgio nos Estados Unidos.

Abstract This article examines forced migration from Central America and criticises the US response, questioning the effectiveness of border control methods, particularly biometrics. It explores two US programmes in Mexico, Frontera Sur and Remain in Mexico. The review analysed the literature on critical security studies and migration, with a focus on Mexican productions. The results indicate diverse measures employed by the US to deter unwanted migrants, including the use of biometric borders to enhance border security and the implementation of racial and social criteria to allow or prevent the passage of certain individuals. The examination of Frontera Sur and Remain in Mexico reveals a US border externalization by making Mexico a buffer state, which hinders migratory flows and creates a vertical border that impedes migrants' journey northward. The article concludes that these measures infringe upon migrants' human rights, limiting their mobility and their pursuit of refuge in the United States.

Resumo O artigo explora os alinhamentos das perspectivas bioéticas e decoloniais com as premissas da inteligência artificial responsável (IAR). Propõe, desse modo, exames atentos sobre os conflitos implícitos nos termos ‘decolonialidade’ e ‘territórios do conhecimento’. Apresenta as aproximações dos debates acerca da biopolítica e necropolítica com a bioética, associando-os aos possíveis impactos da inteligência artificial (IA). Dado o inevitável alcance da IA em todas as esferas da sociedade, o olhar decolonial explicita o quanto a monocultura reforça ideias epistêmicas com potencial opressor sobre minorias e grupos que têm sido alvos desde as práticas coloniais até os dias atuais. Ao apresentar os princípios da IAR, o artigo ressalta o risco de absorver, sem o necessário pensamento crítico, as regras formais importadas do Norte Global como “A” solução para mitigar os possíveis impactos da IA, quando se fazem necessárias ações educativas e de comunicação dentro da cultura, que só serão possíveis partindo-se do entendimento de que a IAR é uma IA Lenta.

Abstract The article explores the alignment of bioethics and decolonial perspectives with the premises ‘responsible artificial intelligence' (RAI). It proposes a careful examination of the implicit conflicts in terms such as ‘decoloniality' and ‘territories of knowledge’. The article presents the similarities between the debates on biopolitics, necropolitics, and bioethics, associating them with the possible impacts of artificial intelligence (AI). Given the inevitable reach of AI in all spheres of society, the decolonial perspective explains how monoculture reinforces epistemic ideas with oppressive potential on minorities and groups that have been targeted from colonial practices to the present day. When presenting the principles of RAI, the article highlights the risk of embracing, without the necessary critical thinking, the formal rules imported from the Global North as “THE” solution to mitigate the possible impacts of AI, when educational and communication actions within the culture become necessary, and they will only be possible if RAI becomes Slow AI.

Resumo O objetivo deste artigo é analisar a técnica moderna como um modo de existência que acontece em rede na coalizão entre natureza (objeto), conhecimento (sujeito) e política (discurso), pontuando-a como dimensão crucial dos desafios civilizatórios da sociedade global. Sob a perspectiva da ontologia relacional da Teoria Ator-Rede, fazemos a seguinte indagação: como modificar a forma de mediação entre sujeito/objeto a fim de encarar os desafios civilizatórios de nossa época? Dessa forma, defendemos que, dadas as nossas condições sociotécnicas, se realmente desejamos civilizar o planeta, é no exercício de aprender a conversar que precisamos concentrar esforços de pesquisa, como um desafio especialmente dado às ciências humanas.

Abstract The objective of this article is to analyze modern technique as a mode of existence that occurs in a network in the coalition between nature (object), knowledge (subject) and politics (discourse), highlighting it as a crucial dimension of the civilizing challenges of global society. From the perspective of the relational ontology of the actor-network theory, we ask the following question: how shall we modify the form of mediation between subject/object in order to face the civilizational challenges of our time? In this way, we argue that, given our socio-technical conditions, if we really want to civilize the planet, it is on the exercise of learning to talk that we need to concentrate research efforts, as a challenge especially given to the human sciences.

Resumo Neste trabalho realizamos uma análise teórica das práticas de resistência e organização política do povo curdo, na assim chamada Questão Curda, a partir da obra de Giorgio Agamben. Se a Soberania moderna estabelece as relações do poder político a partir de uma origem romana que define a exceção e exclusão dos povos matáveis como parte de sua natureza, a desativação desses institutos se dá quando outra lógica impera. Assim, trazemos a Questão Curda como exemplo de profanação do sistema moderno de Estado-Nação e Democracia, a partir das próprias propostas teóricas agambenianas, uma vez que uma tradição decolonial dos povos oprimidos toma o lugar da exceção que determina o homo sacer.

Abstract This paper offers a theoretical analysis of the practices of resistance and political organization by the Kurdish people, in the so-called Kurdish Question, based on Giorgio Agamben’s theoretical framework. If modern Sovereignty establishes political power relations from a Roman origin that defines the exception and exclusion of killable peoples as part of its nature, the deactivation of these institutes occurs when another logic prevails. Thus, we bring the Kurdish Question as an example of desecration of the modern system of Nation State and Democracy, based on Agamben’s own theoretical proposals, since a decolonial tradition of oppressed peoples takes the place of the exception that determines homo sacer.

Resumo Este artigo centrou-se nos desdobramentos da crise de ruptura na Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus (IURD) em Angola, que iniciou no final de 2019 e culminou na expulsão de missionários brasileiros. Buscou-se entender como as tramas e disputas na igreja serviram para a elaboração e o fortalecimento de narrativas nacionalistas, que, a nosso ver, elevaram a crise ao patamar de uma questão de interesse nacional. Lançaremos mão da ideia de que a religião desempenha um “papel positivo na sociedade moderna”, disposta a entrar na esfera pública em interface com as políticas estatais, problemas sociais e memória nacional. Interessa-nos, especialmente, analisar os arranjos discursivos dos reformistas da Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus em Angola, que indicam um quadro de relações e conflitos de interesses se entrelaçando a aspectos históricos, sociais, econômicos e políticos do país.

Abstract This article focuses on the consequences of the crisis of rupture in the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God in Angola, which started at the end of 2019 and culminated in the expulsion of Brazilian missionaries. Our objective is to understand how the conflicts and disputes in the church served to elaborate and reinforce nationalist narratives, which, in our view, rose the crisis to the level of a matter of national interest. We use the idea of religion playing a “positive role in modern society”, willing to enter the public sphere in interface with state policies, social problems and national memory. We are particularly interested in analyzing the discursive arrangements of the reformists inside the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God in Angola, which indicate a frame of relationships and conflicts of interests that are intertwined with historical, social, economic and political aspects.

Resumo Este estudo etnográfico teve o intuito de compreender a experiência do corpo cardíaco e como os elementos religiosos atuam sobre as percepções, concepções e práticas dos adoecidos internados em um hospital federal, sobretudo na subjetivação da dor pelos sujeitos. Os dados apresentados aqui são pertinentes à técnica de entrevistas etnográficas. Participaram da pesquisa pacientes adultos, independentemente do sexo, que se encontravam à espera da cirurgia cardíaca ou em fase de recuperação. O estudo revelou que a experiência cardíaca era associada a símbolos e práticas religiosas. As formas de expressão devocional foram refletidas como técnicas disciplinares no hospital para a superação dos desafios da internação, fase em que os sujeitos enfermos são constituídos e reconfigurados por meio de elementos religiosos conforme suas concepções de papéis sociais, implicando um menor ou maior sofrimento social aos pacientes.

Abstract This ethnographic study aimed to understand the experience of the cardiac body and how religious elements act on the perceptions, conceptions and practices of patients admitted to a federal hospital, especially in the subjects’ subjectivation of pain. The data presented here are pertinent to the ethnographic interview technique. Adult patients, regardless of gender, who were waiting for heart surgery or in the recovery phase from it, participated in the research. The study revealed that the cardiac experience was associated with religious symbols and practices. The forms of devotional expression were reflected as disciplinary techniques in the hospital to overcome the challenges of hospitalization, a phase in which ill persons are constituted and reconfigured through religious elements according to their conceptions of social roles, implying lesser or greater social suffering to the patients.

Resumo Este artigo analisa os discursos de líderes religiosos sobre a inclusão da homossexualidade nas igrejas evangélicas, destacando as interpretações teológicas e bíblicas presentes nas práticas de evangelização de um ministério destinado a pessoas LGBT. A partir dos conceitos de censura, armário e sujeição, compreende-se como estes discursos sobre a homossexualidade operam um movimento duplo, de constrangimento e reconhecimento, materializando a proibição da homossexualidade no contexto religioso. Para tal, analisa-se o discurso de líderes religiosos, materiais evangelísticos, notícias e postagens em redes sociais. Ao final, evidencia-se como os sujeitos homossexuais e sua presença dentro da igreja são compreendidos como partes diferentes de um corpo, e cada qual representa uma “função” ministerial distinta, ou um dom concedido pela graça divina.

Abstract This article discusses the discourses of religious leaders on the inclusion of homosexuality in evangelical churches, highlighting the theological and biblical interpretations present in the evangelization practices of a ministry aimed at LGBT individuals. Based on the concepts of censorship, closet and subjection, we explore how these discourses on homosexuality operate a double movement of constraint and recognition, materializing the prohibition of homosexuality in the religious context. To this end, the discourse of religious leaders, evangelistic materials, news and posts on social networks are analysed. The article concludes that homosexual subjects and their presence within the church are comprehended as different parts of a body, each representing a different ministerial “function” or a gift granted by divine grace.

Resumo Este artigo é uma análise do livro “A Mulher V – moderna à moda antiga” (2011), uma produção da Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus (IURD) direcionada às mulheres. A obra escrita por Cristiane Cardoso, filha do bispo Edir Macedo, apresenta uma série de prescrições em relação ao comportamento feminino. Analisamos características atribuídas à mulher virtuosa e ao seu correspondente antagônico, a mulher não virtuosa. As qualidades da mulher virtuosa estão, majoritariamente, relacionadas à restrição da mulher ao âmbito privado da vida social, à docilidade – do corpo e do comportamento – e à submissão ao marido. Nossas conclusões indicam que o livro viabiliza a inculcação de um habitus que, através de interpretações bíblico-religiosas da mulher cristã ideal, reafirma representações conservadoras do feminino e reforça relações hierárquicas de gênero.

Abstract The aim of this article is to present an analysis of the book “The V Woman – modern in an old-fashioned way” (2011), a publication of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (IURD) specifically aimed at women. The work, written by Cristiane Cardoso, daughter of Bishop Edir Macedo, presents a series of prescriptions regarding female behavior. We analyze the characteristics attributed to the virtuous woman and her antagonistic counterpart, the non-virtuous woman. The qualities of the virtuous woman are mainly linked to the restriction of women to the private sphere of social life, docility – of both body and behavior – and submission to their husbands. Our conclusions indicate that the book facilitates the inculcation of a habitus that, through a biblical portrayal of the ideal Christian woman, reaffirms conservative representations of femininity and reinforces hierarchical gender relations.

Resumo Este artigo analisa como modos de subjetivação e corporificação sustentam a conversão muçulmana na Mesquita de Barretos (SP). Compreendendo o Islã como uma tradição discursiva (Asad, 1986), e a partir do argumento de meus interlocutores de que o Islã seria um “código de vida”, examino a face pedagógica desse projeto de autotransformação, que almeja desenvolver desejos, emoções, atos e condutas virtuosos. Por meio da análise de dois exercícios espirituais – a oração obrigatória [salat] e um estilo sufi de meditação [dhikr] –, além de um sermão [khutba], este trabalho reflete sobre alguns dos esforços de pessoas muçulmanas em suas vidas cotidianas para alcançar excelência ética à luz de normas islâmicas.

Abstract This article analyzes how modes of subjectivation and embodiment sustain Muslim conversion at the Mosque of Barretos (SP). Understanding Islam as a discursive tradition (Asad, 1986) and based on the argument of my interlocutors that Islam is a “code of life”, I examine the pedagogical side of this project of self-transformation, which aims to develop virtuous desires, emotions, acts and behaviors. Through the analysis of two spiritual exercises – the obligatory prayer [salat] and a Sufi style of meditation [dhikr] – as well as a sermon [khutba], this work reflects on some of the efforts of Muslim people in their daily lives to achieve ethical excellence in the light of Islamic norms.

Resumo Neste artigo temos como objetivo analisar o crescimento de evangélicos à esquerda diante da alvorada bolsonarista mediante uma investigação centrada nas eleições de 2020 e 2022 no Brasil. A Teologia da Libertação católica e a Teologia da Missão Integral foram o referencial de ação política de gerações de cristãos brasileiros entre os anos 1960-1990. A perspectiva materialista da história e o combate à desigualdade social eram as suas principais bandeiras de luta. Na atualidade, os referenciais de ação coletiva de evangélicos à esquerda combinam perspectivas marxistas com forte crítica ao iluminismo e ao universalismo que principalmente moldaram as ações das gerações anteriores. Os dados empíricos que sustentam nossas análises se baseiam em materiais de campanha, entrevistas com ativistas e candidatos e informações coletadas no TSE em uma pesquisa realizada em parceria entre o LePar/UFF, o ISER e a Fundação Heinrich Böll entre os anos de 2020 e 2022.

Abstract This article aims to analyze the growth of evangelicals on the left in the face of the Bolsonaro dawn through an investigation centered on the 2020 and 2022 elections in Brazil. Catholic Liberation Theology and Integral Mission Theology were the references for political action for generations of Brazilian Christians between the 1960s and 1990s. The materialist perspective of history and the fight against social inequality were the main points of struggle. Today, the references for collective action of evangelicals on the left combine Marxist perspectives with a strong critique of the Enlightenment and universalism that mainly shaped the actions of previous generations. The empirical data that underpins our analysis is based on campaign materials, interviews with activists and candidates and information collected from the Federal Electoral Court (TSE) in a survey carried out in a partnership between LePar/UFF, ISER and the Heinrich Böll Foundation between 2020 and 2022.

Resumo O presente dossiê tem como objetivo reunir um conjunto de artigos que versem sobre modos de construção de sujeitos religiosos a partir de práticas devocionais, técnicas disciplinares, conhecimentos religiosos e formação ético-moral. Partindo das discussões em torno do sujeito produzidas no campo das Ciências Sociais, objetivamos constituir um espaço de diálogo e reflexão em torno de fenômenos como: ações rituais coletivas, controvérsias públicas, modos de engajamento disciplinar, mobilizações políticas, etc., cuja análise serve de subsídio a uma problematização mais ampla do papel desempenhado pela religiosidade na produção da consciência e, por conseguinte, na construção de sujeitos nas sociedades contemporâneas.

Abstract The present dossier aims to gather a set of articles that deal with ways of building religious subjects from devotional practices, disciplinary techniques, religious knowledge, and ethical-moral formation. Starting from the discussions around the subject produced in the field of Social Sciences, we aim to establish a space for dialogue and reflection around phenomena such as: collective ritual actions, public controversies, modes of disciplinary engagement, political mobilizations, etc., whose analysis provides a basis for a broader problematization of the role played by religiosity in the production of consciousness and, therefore, in the construction of subjects in contemporary societies.
