The aim of this study is to test the three-dimensional model - Orientation to Victoria (OV); Guidance on Performance (OP) and Guidance Status (OS) - measured by the Balbinotti Motives to Competitiveness in Sports Scale (EBMCE-18) through the metric principles of factor analysis and internal consistency. A sample of 549 young people 13-16 years, all practicing regular physical activity and sports. The results of exploratory factor analysis (explaining 54% of the total variance of the construct) and confirmatory (GFI = 0.928 AGFI = 0.937; X2/gl = 1.29, RMS = 0.053) indicate that the model tested satisfactorily confirmed existence of three dimensions (OV, OP and OS). The results of the study of internal consistency, obtained by calculating Cronbach's alpha (0.79 to 0.91), ensures the accuracy of the model tested. Further studies should explore / test other important quality metrics of the instrument (content validity and test-retest reliability, among others).
