Open-access WOMEN IN THE (DIS)(RE)ORGANIZATION OF PUBLIC POLICIES FOR SPORT AND LEISURE: AN ETHNOGRAPHIC STUDY IN PORTO ALEGRE

Abstract

This article aims to understand how women, as protagonists in public leisure spaces, perceive and respond to the (dis)(re)organization brought about by public sports and leisure policies. Through ethnographic research, we observed that the policy adopted by the current municipal administration, based on neoliberal principles, has had consequences for the daily lives of the women working in Ararigbóia Park, leading them to justify and adapt their actions. They draw on their previous experiences in public service to critique the dismantling of these policies and to seek solutions for the (dis)organization of the space. Conversely, volunteers rely on the (re)organization of management as a justification for their interventions in the field of leisure.
