BOARD GAMES AS A THERAPEUTIC ACTION IN THE CHEMOTHERAPY TREATMENT OF ADULTS

Abstract

The study investigated the use of board games as a therapeutic action in the chemotherapy treatment of adults at the Centro de Pesquisas Oncológicas (CEPON) in Florianópolis/SC. This is a field research, descriptive and exploratory, with a qualitative approach to the data. Thirty-one adult patients participated in the study, as well as 14 professionals from the chemotherapy sector at CEPON. Data were obtained through systematic observations, participant observations and semi-structured interviews. Subsequently, they were organized in the Nvivo 10 software and analyzed using the content analysis technique. Board games, explored as complementary tools in the chemotherapy treatment of adults, facilitated the interaction between those involved. The use of recreational activities during chemotherapy sessions minimized the signs and immediate symptoms of the treatment, replaced by feelings of joy and relaxation, structuring pillars of playfulness.
