Dossier of the Brazilian journal "Materials Research" (Revista Ibero-americana de Materiais) submitted to the Journal of Citation Reports/ISI, aimed at indexation in JCR.

"This is a submission to ISI aimed at indexing Materials Research (Revista Ibero-americana de Materiais) in the Journal of Citation Reports. In the appendix (not shown here) we provide a reasonable amount of information and data confirming the statements given here and stressing the appropriateness of this request.

The editorial board is one of them: the 30 editors have published 1332 articles in ISI indexed journals, which gives an average of 44* * a recent estimate demonstrates that the average number of ISI articles published per Mat. Res. editor is over 50! articles per editor. This warrants an inclination to the acceptance of articles of broad interest and not only those of regional significance.

Also interesting to point out is the frequency with which the authors of this journal publish in ISI-indexed journals. As an example, from the 180 authors of the 58 articles published in 2001, 98.1% have published in ISI-indexed journals, with an average of 34.2 articles per author. The site of the journal was visited 8,934 times in 2002. In the same year article access reached the impressive number of 5,237. These numbers can be accessed at the Scielo site (www.scielo.br), where the most requested articles can also be envisaged.

From 2004 on all articles should be published in English.

Also remarkable is that in 2002, 25 articles published had affiliations from countries other than Brazil. The rejection rate in 2002 attained 51.3%.

A final datum is worth to be presented. In 2002, the sciences edition of the Journal of Citation Reports listed 173 journals under the category Materials Research (multidisciplinary). Of these 17 (10%) had impact factors lower than Materials Research (0.2090) and 18 (10.4%) had impact factor in the same range as Material Research (as documented in the appendix). It is in no doubt that indexing Materials Research in the ISI database would provide a much higher visibility to this journal and, in this case, it is likely that its impact factor would reach a position above 30% of journals in this category."
