ABSTRACT
This article aims to analyze the construction of critical representations about the violence of the military dictatorship throughout the 1970s, as a result of the consolidation of the human rights vocabulary. I argue, alongside a critical discussion of the historiography, there is a grammar, not only a hegemonic memory, that provides the frameworks for approaching the Brazilian dictatorial past.
