ABSTRACT
This essay addresses the “Introduction” of the journal Les Temps Modernes, a manifesto in which Sartre presents the essence of his theses on the intellectual function and political significance of writing. It aims to examine how these theses take shape at the intersection of the author’s philosophical assumptions with the challenges of his time. The goal is to reconstruct a key moment in the intellectual origins of the notion of commitment.
