Geoestratégia dos espaços econômicos:transformação e poder no sítio portuárioretroportuário do Rio Grande-RS

This paper analyses both the redefinition and the new strategy of the harbor area of the city of Rio Grande (RS) in Brazil, as well as manifestations of power that emerge from the global area. Harbor operations in Rio Grande characterize a new model of administration, since such operations were transferred to private enterprises. The internationalization of harbor terminals and the transference of corporate control of the harbor area to multinational businesses resulted in the creation of a new global space, with new power relationships. More profound studies are recommended with regards to public/private partnerships and, particularly, on the influences of power within territories that characterize global-areas.
