Demarcação científica: uma reflexão crítica

The debate about scientific demarcation has privileged perspectives mainly guided by the preoccupation in identifying unique and essential features of science that can distinguish and divide the latter from other activities considered non-scientific. This work presents a reflection about the process of scientific demarcation based on the perspective of critical constructivism - a perspective whose main purpose is to review, from a critical standpoint, the presuppositions of social constructivism and ethnomethodology. The contribution of science and technology studies will be highlighted and some researches based on the concept of "boundary-work" will be used. The authors defend that as important as comprehending the processes of demarcation is to capture another simultaneous process of circularity established between different fields - scientific, social, technological, and cultural ones. The concept of boundary permeability will be crucial for the development of the argument. Finally, based on a critical point of view, some consideration regarding the demarcation process in the field of organizational and administrative studies will be presented, basically arguing that the boundaries of the administration as an academic activity are extremely fluid and open to negotiation.
