The impact of organizational change attitudes on citizenzhip behaviour

The aim of the study was to investigate the impact of organizational change attitudes on organizational citizenship behavior. A survey was conducted with 304 employees, male and female, who worked in a bank and in a educational institute in Rio de Janeiro. The participants completed the Attitude towards Organizational Change and an Organization Civism Scales. Hierarchical multiple linear regressions showed that acceptance of change impacted positively on organizational citizenship behavior, that skepticism towards changes negatively affected behaviors related to favorable climate and system protection and younger employees reported more creative suggestions for the system, system protection and behaviors that created favorable climate for organizations. These results are discussed in the appoach of the social exchange theory. We suggest some strategic actions designed to produce positive attitudes in times of organizational changes, capable thus to stimulate citizenship behavior in the members.
