Youth and the Perspectives of Future: The Professional Guidance in the First Job Program

This paper reports the Professional Guidance experience undertaken from presumptions of the Socio-Historical Psychology in a group comprising fifteen youngster ranging from eighteen to twenty-four years old, participating in the First Job Program of a state-controlled company of the state of Santa Catarina. The intervention aimed at understanding the process of occupation/professional choice of youngsters under social vulnerability condition, contributing to expand the roll of future work perspectives (and of ways of life) of those youngsters. Three workshops were undertaken with four hours each, along with an individual integrative interview. Some participants prepared projects, from the proposed reflections, related to continuing studies with vocation and or university courses, others sought for more information on immediate possibilities of employment and income, and one specific group evidenced the impact of its social reality by manifesting the will of avoiding a future with hunger, violence, deaths, and wars. The undertaking of this work with this public from an non-favored socio-economic reality within a public policy context evidences the broadness of intervention possibilities and research that are possible for Professional Guidance under a social viewpoint.
