Parental Alienation and school relations: the psychologist way

Abstract

This article discusses the effects of Parental Alienation in relations which are manifested in the school context between parents and children and identify what are the contributions of the school psychologist to deal with this scenario. Therefore, it is necessary an exhibition on three main axes that articulate on the issue, addressed through a literature review: definitions about parental alienation, the tasks of school and family and the possibilities of action of the school psychologist. In this context, it is concluded that the three institutions have an important role in minimizing the effects of Parental Alienation Syndrome experienced by some children. However, there is scarce literature related to the possible correlations between parental alienation and its actual impact on the school environment, characterized as a challenge for professionals who face similar context to discussed in this article.
