Dear Readers,

One more year of activities at Pró-Fono has ended. This year was special, we ended a cycle. When I took over the scientific management of the Journal, approximately 10 years ago, my goal was very clear: Pró-Fono was going to be the most indexed Journal of Speech-Language and Hearing Science of the country and of South America, that is, it was going to be a journal with a scientific quality that would make us all proud.

We reached that, we. Many people were involved in this process: authors, reviewers, technicians and the editors, Campanatti and I. We could always count on the support and encouragement of professors and researchers of the Speech-Language and Hearing Science. Our Journal was never a second option for publishing manuscripts that were rejected by other scientific journals. More than often I was moved when I heard comments like: Claudia, we are writing a manuscript to submit to Pró-Fono, it is a thesis or master dissertation of someone, and we would like you to give us directions on this or that. On these occasions I would forget work, the work overload of a scientific editor. I hope we were able to help all that looked for us.

During these 10 years we published the consolidation history of the Brazilian Speech-Language and Hearing Science as a established science. Our manuscripts show our development. Through our manuscripts it is possible to acknowledge the research areas of professors and post-graduation programs. These 10 years of Pró-Fono were years of great learning. We learned with international editors and journals how to make a true scientific journal. We hope to serve as an example to other Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences journals that are being structured during this last decade.

A cycle closes. From 2011 onwards Pró-Fono will not exist as it is known. The editorial responsibility - executive and scientific - will be transferred to the Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia (Brazilian Society of Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences). We do not expect to have any kind of loss, on the contrary, we expect and desire for the journal to continue being a success and for it to reach its full potential in this new phase.

I would not be able to nominally thank all who were involved with Pró-Fono during these years, but by thanking Prof. Debora Maria Béfi-Lopes I am thanking all of the reviewers who dedicated themselves in reading and making suggestions to improve the submitted manuscripts. By thanking the young researcher Talita Fortunato-Tavares, I am thanking all of the authors who honored us by sending their studies for our appreciation and publication.

I dedicate this editorial to two persons. These persons were my undergraduate, master, doctorate and post-doctorate students. These two honored and disciplined individuals who have a lot of disposition to work. They were essential for the scientific management of the journal. I dedicate with a lot of affection this editorial to Fabiola Starobole Juste and to Fernanda Chiarion Sassi.

I wish all a Merry Christmas and an excellent 2011, which for our journal represents the first year of a new history.
