Raphael Rabello's arrangement and improvisation on Odeon by Ernesto Nazareth

Comparative study between the compositional procedures by Brazilian composer and pianist Ernesto Nazareth (1863-1934) in his landmark choro Odeon for piano from 1910 (NAZARETH and MAURÍCIO, 1968) and the performance and arrangement practices by Brazilian choro guitar player Raphael Rabello (1962-1995) in his recorded arrangement (NAZARETH and RABELLO, 1991) and his non-commercial video improvisation (RABELLO and NAZARETH, 1991). The analyses of the transcriptions of these recordings (NAZARETH and RABELLO, 2014; RABELLO and NAZARETH, 2014) reveal a free approach to the form, alterations of rhythm, melody and harmony and influence of the classical and flamenco guitar in Raphael Rabello's performance.
