The first forum on the neurobiology of stress

EDITORIAL FOR THE SPECIAL SECTION

Universidade de São Paulo- Ribeirão Preto

The First Forum on the Neurobiology of Stress was held in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, on September 27-30, 2009. The forum was sponsored by the Institute of Neuroscience and Behavior (INeC). INeC is a growing center that promotes knowledge in neuroscience and behavior, with a focus on the behavioral and functional analyses of the brain. INeC now occupies a critical niche in our neuroscience community that goes beyond the city of Ribeirão Preto where it began its activities 3 years ago. The 1st Forum on the Neurobiology of Stress provided an outstanding opportunity for the cross-disciplinary exchange of ideas on the exciting theme of the Neurobiology of Stress. More than 100 neuroscience researchers convened to discuss this topic, representing the breadth of research within behavioral neuroscience in our community. We thank the CNPq and the Graduate Program of Psychobiology of USP Ribeirão Preto for their generous support, which allowed us to arrange excellent conference facilities. We also acknowledge the superb administrative assistance of Renata Vicentini Del Moro, who managed the many issues related to arranging the meeting.

It has indeed been a great pleasure to serve as the Guest Editor of this Special Issue of Psychology & Neuroscience, which is dedicated to the 1st Forum on the Neurobiology of Stress. We are in debt to the guest speakers for their time and effort in writing and revising their papers for this Special Issue. I am confident that the success of this meeting will stimulate further initiatives in this domain.

If you have not yet become a member of INeC, you are cordially invited to join at its office at USP Ribeirão Preto or through the INeC website (www.inec-usp.org).
