Polyurethane Aqueous Dispersions Synthesis and Characterization Based on Hydroxy-terminated Polybutadiene and Different Diisocianates

Polyurethane aqueous dispersions, based on hydroxy-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB), poly(propylene glycol) (PPG), dimethylolpropionic acid (DMPA) and four different diisocyanates [tolylene diisocyanate (TDI), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), 4,4'-diciclo-hexyl-methylene diisocyanate (HMDI) and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI)] were produced. The characteristics of the cast films, the particle size, and the solids content obtained from the different formulations were evaluated. The aqueous dispersions with solids content varying from 10 to 58% and particle size in the range between 0.4 and 3.5 mum were stable for periods of more than 2 months.

Hydroxy-terminated polybutadiene; poly(propylene glycol), IPDI, TDI, HDI, HMDI, polyurethanes; aqueous dispersions
