Thermoplastic polymer pre-impregnated process using hot compression molding

Due to a suitable combination of low density and high mechanical performance, advanced thermoplastic polymer composites have been used in structural applications. One way of processing these composites is through the lamination and consolidation of the thermoplastic polymer pre-impregnated (TPP). This study shows the process of the preparation of TPP using hot compression molding and presenting the temperature and pressure as the parameters used. The polymeric matrices used were poly(ether-ether-ketone), poly(ether-imide), poly(phenylene sulphide) and poly(sulfone) and carbon fibre as reinforcement.
