Limits and contradictions of citizenship in a capitalist society

This paper expresses the argument that the capitalist social relationships are oppositional to the development of morality and citizenship. It also brings the argument that citizenship is an idealized representation with no power to overcome the alienation of social relationships that are universally mediated by money in our society. Finally, the paper critically analyzes the fact that the pedagogy of competences is the main theoretical reference of the philosophy teaching curriculum in the Sao Paulo state high school system.
