For some decades the world has sought a sustainable and environmentally friendly, socially just and economically viable. The concern about various environmental issues is not limited to preserving the planet. The objective of this paper is to present the importance of biofuels in world energy matrix, showing the main biomass currently available, its characteristics, qualities and defects in order to select the most suitable for biofuel Brazilian context. This fuel should be presented as a viable alternative and aggressive to the environment than oil. To compare the alternatives will be used MACBETH methodology due to multiple criteria and value judgments involved in decision making.
