Procura-se resgatar a importância de uma subárea da Programação Matemática conhecida como Programação Linear Por Partes - PLP. De fato a PLP tem inúmeras aplicações tanto na área teórica como em situações reais. Este trabalho apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, efetuada nas principais revistas técnicas e livros disponíveis relacionados com Pesquisa Operacional, que visou situar o estado da'arte da Programação Linear por Partes, bem como a abrangência de sua aplicabilidade. Particularmente, no contexto da PLP, este texto deslaca a Programação em Redes Lineares por Partes devido a sua relevância em muitas situações práticas.

The importance of a subárea of Mathematical Programming known as Piecewise-Linear Programming - PLP is emphasized. In fact PLP has many both theoretical and real life applications. This paper presents the results of an extensive bibliographical research, including the most relevant Operations Research journals and books available, which had as goal to find out Piecewise-Linear Programming state-of-art, as well as its range of applicability. Particularly, inside PLP context, this paper details Network Piecewise-Linear Programming due to its relevance to several real life situations.

This paper provides a comprehensive insight into current trends and developments in Concurrent Engineering for integrated development of products and processes with the goal of completing the entire cycle in a shorter time, at lower overall cost and with fewer engineering design changes after product release. The evolution and definition of Concurrent Engineering are addressed first, followed by a concise review of the following elements of the concurrent engineering approach to product development: Concept Development: The Front-End Process, identifying Customer Needs and Quality Function Deployment, Establishing Product Specifications, Concept Selection, Product Architecture, Design for Manufacturing, Effective Rapid Prototyping, and The Economics of Product Development. An outline of a computer-based tutorial developed by the authors and other graduate students funded by NASA ( accessible via the world-wide-web ). is provided in this paper. A brief discussion of teamwork for successful concurrent engineering is included, t'ase histories of concurrent engineering implementation at North American and European companies are outlined with references to textbooks authored by Professor Menon and other writers. A comprehensive bibliography on concurrent engineering is included in the paper.

Este trabalho discute a inovação tecnológica na industria. Preliminarmente descreve aspectos relacionados à evolução dos sistemas produtivos e suas relações com a tecnologia e estrutura organizacional. Incorpora análise de modelos recentes, propostos para definir a taxa de inovação tecnológica para produtos e processos no tempo, e suas relações com o mercado e estrutura organizacional. Enfatiza que a inovação tecnológica na industria envolve planejamento estratégico e operacional com respeito a tecnologia/mercado, gama de projetos, e estrutura organizacional. No processo de desenvolvimento de produtos, o gerenciamento por projetos parece ser apropriado para as condições atuais de flexibilidade e integração na industria, onde o aprendizado e a competência são pré-requisitos.

This paper discuss lhe technological innovation in industry. Preliminary describes aspects concerning the evolution in the productives systems and their relationship with technology and organization structure. It attempts to analyse the recent propositions of models that hypothezises the rate of major innovation for products and process over time, and the organizational and market relationship. Enfazises that the technological innovation in industry involves the establishiment of a strategic and operational planning, with respect technology/market, gama of projects, and organizational structures. On development process, the management by project appear to be appropriate within the present conditions of flexibility and integration in industry, where the learning and .competence approach are prerequisites.
