PANDEMIC IN BRAZIL, DENIALISM AND RESISTANCE: WHO WILL SURVIVE? THE CASE OF CAMALAÚ

ABSTRACT

The challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic are well known: a collapsing health system, deaths, bereavement, fear and ideological disputes. In Brazil, the handling of the pandemic was marked by sociopolitical denialism, which refers to the question: Who shall survive? We chose to discuss the case of the northeastern community of Camalaú (Paraíba state) to socionomically analyze the coping strategies and collective actions used by its sociocommunity network. Interviews were carried out and a map of the sociocommunity support network for the population was constructed, which were analyzed with intersections in network theories. It was possible to know the social impacts of the pandemic experience, in a context of denial, by people from northeastern Cariri, which survived by the force of the network, and showed their ways of resistance revealing a story that deserves to be told.
