SETTLED YOUTH AND THE IDENTITY LINKED WITH THE LAND

Abstract

This study focuses on the analysis of the construction of identity linked to land by youth from a rural settlement organized by Movement of Landless Rural Workers (MST) in Teresina, Piauí. The concept of space appropriation from Environmental Psychology, in close cooperation with the Social Psychology of historical-cultural base, was the analytical framework for understanding this process. The data were collected through a focus group with the Collective of Young, existing in the settlement. The interviews were recorded and transcribed for qualitative analysis by means of which were obtained as categories the following identities: homogeneous, enriched, struggle and contrast. Despite the differences existing, the identity has as convergence the insertion in a history of the man in the rural settlement as well as the activities carried out by the subjects in the space in which they live.
