FAMILY AND WOMAN AS POPULATION'S GOVERNMENT INSTRUMENTS FOR SOCIAL ASSISTANCE

Abstract

This article questions the way family and woman were formed as the main points of intervention of policies for Social Assistance. Therefore, we will bring elements that show the historical emergence of this interest, using Foucault's biopolitics concept. It can be seen that, historically, families and women have been main targets of disciplining and regulation of existence. The policies for Social Assistance also produce these practices, either focusing on interventions that engender a family model in their practices, or creating rules for the inclusion at services and benefits which are based on the association between womanhood and motherhood. We believe that questioning these practices and highlighting their effects can contribute to the change of actions that are carried out within the Social Assistance.
