THE EXPERIENCE OF OLDER AMONG THE INDIGENOUS GUARANI MBYÁ

The world increase of older persons requires a transcultural perspective on adulthood and ageing. This exploratory study aims to better understand the cultural dynamics on the indigenous community Guarani Mbya, living in the Krukutu village, highlighting the role of the older persons. The sample comprises six members of the elders' council (Conselho de anciãos). Data collection was carried out through an open interview and a board diary. Data were submitted to content analysis. Main findings suggest that being Guarani is a way of being oriented to the traditions preservation through education and religion; older persons are the main guardians and transmit those traditions. Results contribute to a cultural perspective on old age and aging.
