Questioning the concept of "victim" of violence

We present discussions that we made in a research in which we monitored fifteen mothers that have teenager kids who suffered from violence in an establishment of correctional measures. We analyze how certain conceptions of victim of violence are updated through speeches, actions, feelings and thoughts of these mothers, and, also, how these conceptions contribute to engender processes of production of subjectivity. We use the cartography, a method of subjectivity's research that aims to monitor processes, not representing realities already given. We performed twenty meetings with these mothers, recorded in minutes and field diary. Their speeches and actions oscillated between two antagonistic kinds of subjectivity: reproduction of individualized forms of suffering, and the creation of collective organization to fight for their rights, questioning the individualization of violence. We hope to cooperate with the debate on violence, enabling problematize the notion of "victim", unnaturalizing practices and envision other ways of citizenship.
