Memories of place: the tourism on the island of campeche

This article discusses a question relating to tourist activity to the present: the destruction caused by mass tourism in which individuals relate to the physical and symbolic richness of the place as a consumer. A search conducted on the island of Campeche in Florianopolis, with the residents of the vicinity, and life stories that have linked to it, expressive recover memories of the place concluded that they can be excellent benefits for characterization of the island as unique in its history, preventing falls the trend of the globalized world in transforming it into a non-place. This initiative seeks to contribute to the preservation of the symbolic place for the visitor experience of the subject and to reflect on a tourism in the consumer society.
