RESUMO Esta pesquisa pretende ser uma reflexão sobre a centralidade do discernimento para a vocação cristã laical, a qual busca a santidade no envolvimento com o mundo, tendo como base os Exercícios Espirituais de Santo Inácio de Loyola, a partir do acompanhamento realizado por mulheres durante os Exercícios Espirituais inacianos. Destacam-se, aqui, testemunhos femininos sobre a prática do discernimento inaciano, palavras de mulheres que, além da experiência de fazer os Exercícios, atuam como orientadoras e acompanhantes. O método utilizado foi o das narrativas orais, testemunhos femininos sobre a prática do acompanhamento espiritual, e a metodologia para o recrutamento das mulheres foi o snowball. Considerando que o discernimento é fundamental para o crescimento espiritual do(a) leigo(a), pode-se afirmar que, pelo lugar central que o discernimento ocupa, a espiritualidade inaciana tem uma grande contribuição para o aprofundamento de uma espiritualidade laical, através do acompanhamento espiritual das mulheres, dando, assim, visibilidade a essa experiência.

ABSTRACT This study intends to be a reflection on the centrality of discernment for the lay Christian vocation, which seeks holiness in its involvement with the world. It is based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, from the accompaniment conducted by women during the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. Here, we focus on female testimonies about the practice of Ignatian discernment,. These women, in addition to the experience of doing the Exercises, guide and accompany those doing the exercises. The method used in this study was oral narratives and female testimonies about the practice of spiritual accompaniment, and the snowball was the methodology for recruiting women. Considering that discernment is fundamental for the spiritual growth of the lay person, it can be said that, due to the central place that discernment occupies, Ignatian spirituality makes a great contribution to the deepening of a lay spirituality through the spiritual accompaniment of women, thus emphasizing this experience.

SOMMARIO A differenza di molti autori spirituali della sua epoca o delle epoche precedenti, Ignazio di Loyola predilige, per parlare del demonio, il termine “nemico” o ancora di più l’espressione “nemico della natura umana”. In questo nostro contributo investighiamo tale espressione: ne analizziamo le ricorrenze negli scritti ignaziani ed esploriamo le fonti da cui Ignazio potrebbe averla ereditata. La difficoltà a rintracciarne l’origine ci spingerà ad approfondire separatamente il significato di “nemico” e di “natura umana” nell’orizzonte semantico/culturale di Ignazio, per poi congiungere questi termini e formulare qualche ipotesi sull’accezione che Ignazio attribuiva all’espressione indagata. Ne emerge la visione di un combattimento escatologico che si svolge nel cuore di ogni uomo e di ogni donna, e in cui ciò che è in gioco è proprio l’interpretazione della natura umana e la piena realizzazione dell’uomo in Dio.

ABSTRACT Unlike many spiritual authors of his time or earlier times, Ignatius of Loyola prefers to use the term “enemy” or, even, the expression “enemy of human nature”, when speaking of the devil. We investigate such expressions in this paper: we analyse their occurrence in Ignatian writings and explore the sources from which Ignatius may have drawn. The difficulty in tracing their origins leads us to investigate separately the meaning of “enemy” and “human nature” in Ignatius’ semantic/cultural horizon, and then to combine these terms and formulate some hypotheses about the meaning Ignatius gave to the expressions under investigation. What emerges is a vision of an eschatological combat taking place in the heart of every man and woman, in which what is at stake is precisely the interpretation of human nature and the full accomplishment of man in God.

RESUMEN El artículo tiene como objeto estudiar la relación entre espiritualidad (lo vivido) y teología (lo pensado) desde la metodología desarrollada por un nuevo paradigma para interpretar la tradición cristiana e ignaciana desde el contexto actual de post-cristiandad: el de la vida cristiana ignaciana. Para ello en la primera parte se ofrece una síntesis del mencionado paradigma, centrando la atención en la relación entre moción, emoción y decisión en el proceso de toma de decisiones (decision-making), mientras que en la segunda parte se desarrolla la importancia de la noción de transformación desde la formulación de San Ignacio de Loyola y San Juan de la Cruz. En la tercera y última parte de la investigación se exponen las consecuencias para la teología del planteamiento de las dos partes precedentes: se concluye la conveniencia de asumir la noción de ‘vida cristiana’ para expresar holísticamente la experiencia de la revelación cristiana y plantear la ‘teología experiencial’ como renovación de la teología espiritual.

ABSTRACT This article aims to study the relationship between spirituality (what is lived) and theology (what is thought), using the methodology developed by a new paradigm to interpret the Christian and Ignatian tradition in the current context of post-Christianity: that of the Ignatian Christian life. The first part offers a synthesis of this paradigm, focusing on the relationship between motion, emotion, and decision in the decision-making process, whereas the second part discusses the importance of the notion of transformation following the approach of St. Ignatius of Loyola and St. John of the Cross. The third and last part presents the consequences for theology of the two preceding parts: it determines the convenience of assuming the notion of ‘Christian life’ to express the experience of Christian revelation holistically and to propose ‘experiential theology’ as a renewal of spiritual theology.

RESUMO Um diretor espiritual chateado simplesmente encerrou um retiro com um grupo de padres africanos porque eles não conseguiam observar estrito silêncio. Situações similares em outros lugares do continente levaram um jovem estudante africano a pôr-se a questão da adequação dos Exercícios Espirituais do século XVI aos africanos contemporâneos. Este texto reconhece os desafios enfrentados pelos diretores espirituais para aplicar “com precisão” o método dos Exercícios Espirituais em um mundo diversificado, sempre em evolução, barulhento e ocupado. A partir da experiência concreta daquele grupo de sacerdotes, ele defende a pertinência dos Exercícios no contexto africano com base na adaptabilidade e flexibilidade inerentes aos Exercícios Espirituais de Inácio e aos diretórios subsequentes. A crise particular entre aquele diretor e seus retirantes, entretanto, também representa uma oportunidade única para que os diretores de retiros encontrem maneiras criativas de acolher retirantes com necessidades específicas, e de comunicar o material dos Exercícios de uma maneira que seja acessível e respeitosa à visão de mundo africana.

ABSTRACT An upset spiritual director just ended a retreat with a group of African priests because they could not observe strict silence. Similar situations elsewhere on the continent led a young African student to raise the question of the suitability of sixteenth-century Spiritual Exercises to modern Africans. This essay acknowledges the challenges facing spiritual directors to “accurately” apply the method of the Spiritual Exercises in a diverse and ever-evolving, noisy and busy world. From the concrete experience of this group of priests, it argues for the suitability of the Exercises to the African context based on the adaptability and flexibility inherent in Ignatius’ Spiritual Exercise and subsequent directories. The particular crisis between this director and his retreatants, however, also presents a unique opportunity for retreat directors to find creative ways to accommodate retreatants with specific needs, and to communicate the message of the Exercises in a way that is both accessible to and respectful of the African worldview.

RESUMEN Hacia el final del libro de los Ejercicios espirituales, Ignacio ofrece unos resúmenes de los misterios de la vida de Cristo (Ej 261-312). Para la tercera semana, encontramos diez misterios (289-298). En este artículo pretendemos destacar cómo Ignacio lee los evangelios, cómo ha entendido la Pasión de Cristo. La metodología consiste en el estudio de la selección y el uso que Ignacio hace de estos misterios. A través de las omisiones y de los añadidos ignacianos al texto evangélico se nos va revelando cuáles son sus acentos particulares, contribuyendo así a que perfilar mejor qué es lo que Ignacio ofrece al ejercitante como materia, como medios, y como fin de la oración.

ABSTRACT Toward the end of the book of the Spiritual Exercises, Ignatius offers some summaries of the mysteries of the life of Christ (Ex 261-312). We find ten mysteries in the third week (289-298). In the present article, we intend to highlight how Ignatius reads the Gospels and, how he understood the Passion of Christ. Our methodology studies the selection and use that Ignatius makes of these mysteries. Through Ignatian’s omissions and additions to the Gospel text, his particular theology and spirituality are revealed to us, thus contributing to a better outlining of what Ignatius offers the retreatant as the material, the means, and the goal of the prayer.

RESUMO A pneumatologia dos Exercícios Espirituais de Santo Inácio de Loyola é famosa por ser discreta. Entretanto, outros autores inacianos conferem ao Espírito Santo lugar central na espiritualidade. Este artigo analisa a contribuição pneumatológica da obra “Doutrina Espiritual” de Louis Lallemant para a espiritualidade inaciana, em diálogo com os Exercícios Espirituais. Fundamentada na condução pelo Espírito Santo, a obra de Lallemant preconiza uma docilidade ao Espírito alimentada pela “vigilância sobre o coração” e uma contínua capacidade de resposta aos apelos do Espírito. A “segunda conversão” proposta por Lallemant a seus leitores é mostrada ali como um evento pneumatológico. No entanto, ela configura o crente a Cristo, reconhecendo assim o foco cristológico da espiritualidade inaciana ao mesmo tempo que expande sua dimensão pneumatológica.

ABSTRACT The Pneumatology of the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola is famously discreet. However, other Ignatian authors give the Holy Spirit a central place in their spirituality. This article analyzes the Pneumatological contribution of Louis Lallemant’s Spiritual Doctrine to Ignatian spirituality, in dialogue with the Spiritual Exercises. Anchored in the guidance of the Holy Spirit, this spiritual teaching advocates a docility to the Spirit nurtured by the “guard over the heart” and an on-going responsiveness to the Spirit’s promptings. The “second conversion” promoted by Lallemant to his hearers is revealed as a Pneumatological event. It nonetheless conforms the believer to Christ, acknowledging the Christological focus of Ignatian Spirituality, while expanding its Pneumatological dimension.

RESUMO Durante o último ano da sua vida, Kierkegaard lançou um implacável ataque à Igreja estatal dinamarquesa e às figuras eclesiásticas que a representavam. Ele acusa bispos e pastores de corrupção e hipocrisia e de haver adulterado a mensagem cristã. A necessidade de expor a verdadeira situação da Igreja estatal leva Kierkegaard a recorrer a uma prosa incendiária. Kierkegaard pretende minar a autoridade eclesiástica e forçar o leitor a questionar a obediência ao clero a fim de que possa reconhecer e apropriar o verdadeiro cristianismo do Novo Testamento. A questão é saber se a radicalidade da sua crítica é uma aberração de caráter circunstancial ou a conclusão lógica e epílogo do seu pensamento. As interpretações em torno do ataque de Kierkegaard à Igreja são discordantes. Se bem que se observem evidentes pontos de contato entre as suas obras iniciais e posteriores, não se pode considerar a crítica à Igreja como uma mera reiteração de posições defendidas anteriormente. As questões tratadas nas suas obras iniciais e posteriores representam uma multiplicidade de perspectivas em metamorfose.

ABSTRACT During the last year of his life, Kierkegaard launched a fierce attack on the Danish State Church and the ecclesiastical figures representing it. He accuses bishops and pastors of corruption and hypocrisy and of distorting the Christian message. The need to expose the true situation of the State Church leads Kierkegaard to resort to incendiary language. He intends to undermine the authority of the church and force the reader to question obedience to the clergy, so that the reader may be able to recognize and appropriate the true Christianity of the New Testament. The question is whether his radical criticism is an incidental aberration or the logical conclusion and culmination of his thought. The interpretations of Kierkegaard’s attack on the church vary widely. Although there are undeniable connections between his earlier and later writings, Kierkegaard’s criticism of the church cannot be considered a mere restatement of positions previously defended. The issues addressed in the earlier and later writings reveal a multiplicity of evolving viewpoints.

RESUMO A questão da origem camponesa de Amós tem situado o debate acerca da sua atuação em torno das explorações econômicas pelas elites governantes, deixando pouco abordadas no seu livro as disputas de autoridades institucionais do antigo Israel. No contexto histórico interno, encontram-se a abertura das fronteiras e a fluidez das identidades resultantes das relações diplomáticas israelitas iniciadas no século IX no período da dinastia omrida. Por um lado, isso levou ao desenvolvimento econômico em Samaria, a capital; por outro, resultou no empobrecimento de grupos sociais produtivos do setor rural, por causa da alta tributação da terra e da produção. No contexto regional, o início do processo de provincialização no sul do Levante operado pelo império neoassírio somou-se aos conflitos de fronteiras entre Israel Norte (“Reino do Norte”) e Aram-Damasco, o que refletiu na economia e agravou a crise política israelita. Em perspectiva, o corpus profético projeta uma visão de mundo política: as decisões do rei devem contemplar os benefícios aos pequenos produtores e comerciantes excluídos das grandes rotas comerciais. Metodologicamente, realizaremos uma operação historiográfica comparativa, porque analisaremos fontes bíblicas e extra-bíblicas contemporâneas às representações literárias proféticas do Livro de Amós. Nossa pesquisa pretende concluir que a atuação de Amós e o que ele representa historicamente se encontram vinculados inicialmente a essa conjuntura político-econômica internacional.

ABSTRACT The question of Amos’ peasant origin has shaped the debate about his role in economic exploitation by the ruling elites, leaving the disputes of institutional authorities in ancient Israel barely discussed in his book. The internal historical context shows the opening of borders and the fluidity of identities resulting from the Israeli diplomatic relations that began in the 9th century in the period of the Omride dynasty. On the one hand, this led to economic development in Samaria, the capital; on the other hand, it resulted in the impoverishment of productive social groups in the rural sector due to the high taxation of land and production. In the regional context, the beginning of the provincialization process in the south of the Levant, operated by the Neo-Assyrian empire, added to the border conflicts between North Israel (“Northern Kingdom”) and Aram-Damascus, which reflected in the economy and aggravated the Israeli political crisis. Put into perspective, the prophetic corpus projects a political worldview: the king’s decisions must contemplate the benefits to small producers and traders excluded from the large trade routes. Methodologically, we will carry out a comparative historiographical study, as we will analyze biblical and extra-biblical sources contemporary to the prophetic literary representations of the Book of Amos. Our study intends to conclude that Amos’ performance and what he represents historically are initially linked to this international political-economic situation.

RESUMO O debate acadêmico acerca da unidade literária do quarto evangelho se desdobra em inúmeros desafios narrativos, textuais e exegéticos. Aparentes rupturas no fluxo da narrativa, dados de geografia e topografia e informações desencontradas levaram alguns estudiosos a propor esquemas de reorganização do texto de João. No entanto, estudos literários mais recentes indicam estruturas de organização interna e sistemas temáticos unificadores ao longo desse evangelho. Este artigo apresenta uma breve revisão da questão para em seguida tratar do tema unificador da relação íntima e de pertença entre Jesus e seus seguidores, possibilitada pela descida do Espírito. Essa relação se aprofunda nos discursos de despedida em João 13-17, mas que também se enraíza por todo o livro. O tema da relação de proximidade evidencia uma sólida unidade entre o prólogo do evangelho e suas duas seções maiores: Jesus e o mundo (1-12) e Jesus e seus discípulos (13-17).

ABSTRACT The academic debate about the literary unity of the fourth gospel unfolds in innumerable narrative, textual, and exegetical challenges. Apparent disruptions in the flow of the narrative, geographic and topographic data, and mismatched information have led some researchers to propose reorganizing schemes to the text of John. However, more recent literary studies have indicated internal organizing structures and unifying thematic systems throughout the fourth gospel. This article presents a brief review of the issue, in order to address the unifying theme of the intimate relationship and belonging between Jesus and his followers, allowed by the descending of the Holy Spirit. This relationship deepens in the farewell speeches in John 13-17, but also takes root throughout the entire book. The theme of the relationship of closeness shows a solid unity between the prologue of the gospel and its two major sections: Jesus and the world (chaps. 1-12), and Jesus and his disciples (13-17).

RESUMO Neste artigo, pretende-se mostrar como o discipulado no evangelho de Marcos surge antes de qualquer ritualidade, o que nos faz regressar aos praenotanda do R.I.C.A. (Ritual de Iniciação Cristã de Adultos) e aos processos catecumenais. Sem apresentar a expressão, Marcos narra o percurso dos discípulos como um procedimento catecumenal, em que o grande catequista é Jesus. Para tal, partindo das personagens deuteragonistas – os discípulos – é possível verificar qual a parte do processo batismal que é relevada pelo evangelista, pois é de um processo que se trata. Os discípulos são envolvidos num catecumenato pelo grande catequista Jesus, percurso que atravessa todo o segundo evangelho canônico. Isso faz do discipulado em Marcos um catecumenato, que da parte de Jesus consiste num processo de familiarização.

ABSTRACT This article aims to show how the discipleship in the gospel of Mark arises before any rituality, which leads us to return to the previous and very important notes of the Christian Adults Initiation Ritual and to the catechumenal processes. Mark, without using the expression, narrates the disciples’ journey as a catechumenate procedure in which Jesus is the master catechist. To this end, starting from the deuteragonist characters, i.e., the disciples, it is possible to verify which part of the baptismal process is revealed by the evangelist, because it is a process that is at stake. The disciples are involved in a catechumenate by the master catechist, Jesus. This is a journey that goes through the entire second canonical gospel. This makes the discipleship in Mark a catechumenate, which, from the part of Jesus is a procedure of familiarization.
