Justice perceptions of university teachers: a multi-dimensional construct

This paper aims at showing how an instrument for measuring justice perceptions of university teachers was developed and validated. Four stages were accomplished: a) the items were collected; b) the questionnaire was developed; c) an exploratory factor analysis was applied to the data collected from a sample of university teachers; d) confirmatory factor analysis was applied to the data of another sample. The findings are as follow: a) teachers distinguish five justice dimensions (rewards distribution, work distribution, procedural, interpersonal and informational); b) in comparison with the four-factor model (in which interpersonal and informational descriptors are aggregated in the same factor), this five-factor model fits better the data; c) moreover, it brings higher predictive power to teachers' affective commitment. The research contributes to understand the dimensions of justice perceptions in different contexts, and provides a measurement tool with good psychometric properties.

justice perceptions; citizenship behaviors of university teachers; affective commitment
