Abstract
This paper contributes to the investigation of fear as a driver of collaboration-transformed into consent-in neoliberalism. To do so, it first resumes some of Christophe Dejours’ ideas, highlighting the role of work and fear in the neoliberal machine. Since these ideias disregard some questions about the nature of collective engagement, the text turns to Freud’s analysis of mass psychology in search for answers. Finally, after showing the limits of such analysis, excessively focused on the figure of the Father (or the leader), it draws on Jacques Lacan to elaborate a new mass psychology more adequate to current society.
