  • Estudo da emissão por fluorescência de ultravioleta na quantificação de um inibidor de corrosão do tipo sal de amônio quaternário em água Artigo

Rangel, Herllaine de Almeida; Merçon, Fábio

    Resumo em Inglês:

Quaternary ammonium salts are the corrosion inhibitors most frequently used by the oil industry. In this study, the ultraviolet fluorescence technique was evaluated for the analysis of a quaternary ammonium salt in water as a corrosion inhibitor. The comparison with standard salt showed that an alkyl aryl quaternary ammonium salt is the main fluorophore, with emission maxima at 306 and 593 nm. The best instrumental parameters were: width of excitation and emission slits of 10 and 15 nm, respectively, and scan rate of 10 nm min-1. The presence of aromatic compounds and biocides affects the analysis of corrosion inhibitors.
  • Self-condensation of n-(N-propyl)butanimine: NMR and mass spectral analyses and investigation by theoretical calculation

Manfrini, Rozângela Magalhães; Teixeira, Flávia Rodrigues; Piló-Veloso, Dorila; Alcântara, Antônio Flávio de Carvalho; Nelson, David Lee; Siqueira, Ezequias Pessoa de

    Resumo em Inglês:

The stability of N-propylbutanimine (1) was investigated under different experimental conditions. The acid-catalyzed self-condensation that produced the E-enimine (4) and Z-inimine (5) was studied by experimental analyses and theoretical calculations. Since the calculations for the energy of 5 indicated that it had a lower energy than 4, yet 4 was the principal product, the self-condensation of 1 must be kinetically controlled.
  • Avaliação de ICP OES com configuração axial ou radial para determinação de iodo em sal de cozinha Artigo

    Oliveira, Adriana A.; Nóbrega, Joaquim A.; Pereira-Filho, Edenir R.; Trevizan, Lilian C.

    Resumo em Inglês:

The performance of inductively-coupled plasma optical emission spectrometers with axial and radial views for determination of iodine in table salt was evaluated. Interference and memory effects in nitric acid and water-soluble tertiary amines (CFA-C) media were studied. Based on a factorial experiment, one optimum instrument operational condition for axial configuration, and two optima conditions for radial configuration was established. The ICP OES with axial view was 5-fold more sensitive than the radial view. Both matrix matching and standard addition methods were used for iodine quantification and for most samples, both strategies of calibration led to similar results. Recoveries ranged from 104 to 114%.

Araujo, Izabel Cristina Leinig; Melo, Vander de Freitas; Abate, Gilberto; Dolatto, Rafael Garrett

    Resumo em Inglês:

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the adsorption of the herbicide Diuron onto smectite and Fe oxides minerals. Ninety mg of each mineral, 1 mL of 0.15 mol L-1 CaCl2 and 8 mL of Diuron (0.25-10.00 mg L-1) were used in triplicates. These materials were shaken, ultra centrifuged and the supernatant collected and analysed on a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The Diuron presented low adsorption onto clay mineral fractions. Adsorption was greater onto Fe oxides at pH 7.0, possibly due to proximity to the point of zero charge of these minerals.

Silva, Láuris Lucia da; Donnici, Claudio Luis; Lopes, Júlio César Dias; Goulart, Marília Oliveira Fonseca; Abreu, Fabiane Caxico de; Paula, Francine Santos de; Bravo, Carlos E. Salas; Santoro, Marcelo Matos; Denadai, Ângelo Márcio Leite; Santos, Alexandre Martins Costa; Montanari, Carlos Alberto

    Resumo em Inglês:

Biscationic amidines bind in the DNA minor groove and present biological activity against a range of infectious diseases. Two new biscationic compounds (bis-α,ω-S-thioureido, amino and sulfide analogues) were synthesized in good yields and fully characterized, and their interaction with DNA was also investigated. Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) was used to measure the thermodynamic properties of binding interactions between DNA and these ligands. A double stranded calf thymus DNA immobilized on an electrode surface was used to study the possible DNA-interacting abilities of these compounds towards dsDNA in situ. A remarkable interaction of these compounds with DNA was demonstrated and their potential application as anticancer agents was furthered.
  • Ce - promoted catalyst from hydrotalcites for CO2 reforming of methane: calcination temperature effect

Daza, Carlos Enrique; Moreno, Sonia; Molina, Rafael

    Resumo em Inglês:

Ce-promoted Ni-catalysts from hydrotalcites were obtained. The effect of calcination temperature on the chemical and physical properties of the catalysts was studied. Several techniques were used to determine the chemical and physical characteristics of oxides. The apparent activation energies of reduction were determined. Catalytic experiments at 48 L g-1h-1 without pre-reduction in CO2 reforming of methane were performed. The spinel-like phase in these oxides was only formed at 1000 ºC. The reduction of Ni2+ in the oxides was clearly affected by the calcination temperature which was correlated with catalytic performance. The catalyst calcined at 700 ºC showed the greatest activity.
  • Distribution of chemical compartments of soil organic matter and c stocks of a cambisol from south Brazil as affected by Pinus afforestation

Almeida, Henrique Cesar; Dick, Deborah Pinheiro; Bertotto, Francielle Leonardelli; Chitarra, Guilherme Silva

    Resumo em Inglês:

Distribution and stocks of soil organic matter (SOM) compartments after Pinus monoculture introduction in a native pasture area of a Cambisol, Santa Catarina, Brazil, were investigated. Pinus introduction increased soil acidity, content of exchangeable Al+3 and diminished soil nutrients. Nevertheless, soil C stock increased in all humic fractions of the 0-5 cm layer after Pinus afforestation. In the subsurface, the vegetation change only promoted SOM redistribution from the NaOH-extractable humic substances to a less hydrophobic humin fraction. Under Pinus, soil organo-mineral interactions were relevant up to a 15 cm depth, while in pasture environment, this mechanism occurred mainly in the surface layer.

Villanueva, Felipe Carlos Alvarez; Boaretto, Antonio Enedi; Firme, Lucia Pittol; Muraoka, Takashi; Nascimento Filho, Virgilio Franco do; Abreu Junior, Cassio Hamilton

    Resumo em Inglês:

Zn availability in Red Latossol (Rhodic Ferralsol) of different pH amended with different rates of sewage sludge was studied by the isotopic 65Zn L value method. Soil chemical properties were found to be altered by SS addition. Zn concentration and Zn derived from SS (ZnpfSS) in plant, and Zn phytoavailability (L value), were increased with increasing SS rates. The linear correlation coefficient of plant Zn with SS rates and with L value was significant at 1% probability. The L value proved an efficient method for predicting Zn phytoavailability in sewage sludge-amended soil with different pH under the soil conditions studied.

The hexane/ethyl ether (1:1), ethyl acetate and methanol extracts, and 11α-hydroxylup-20(29)-en-3-one, tingenone and 6-oxo-tingenol, showed antimicrobial properties on in vitro assays. All extracts and triterpenes, except 3β,11α-di-hydroxylup-20(29)-ene, presented toxicity demonstrated by the larvicidal effect test using Artemia salina.
  • Degradação de poluentes emergentes por processos Fenton e foto-Fenton Artigo

Durigan, Marco A. Benedetti; Vaz, Sergio Renato; Peralta-Zamora, Patricio

    Resumo em Inglês:

A continuous photochemical treatment system was developed for aiming the treatment of aqueous solutions containing relevant micro-pollutants (microcystin-LR, sulfamethoxazole and 17-b estradiol). The continuous photo-Fenton process provided high degradation efficiency. However, contact time between samples and the irradiated region is short relative to total treatment time, indicating that observed changes are predominantly due to the Fenton process. Higher degradation efficiency was observed in systems operated using two treatment cycles, the first involving a batch Fenton process and the second a continuous photo-Fenton treatment.

    Resumo em Inglês:

Myrsinoic A acid, isolated from Myrsine cuneifolia and its hydrogenated derivative had their effect on photosynthesis tested. The compounds inhibited the electron flow (basal, phosphorylating and uncoupled) from water to methylviologen; therefore, they act as Hill reaction inhibitors in spinach thylakoids. They inhibited partial reactions of PSII electron flow from water to 2,5-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinone, from water to sodium silicomolybdate, and partially electron flow from diphenylcarbazide to 2,6-dichloroindophenol. Their inhibition sites were at the donor and acceptor sides of PSII, between P680 and Q A. Chlorophyll a fluorescence measurements confirmed the behavior of the compounds (pool of quinones).

Serafim, Felipe Augusto Thobias; Silva, Alexandre Ataíde da; Galinaro, Carlos Alexandre; Franco, Douglas Wagner

    Resumo em Inglês:

Six wines were distilled in two different distillation apparatus (alembic and column) producing 24 distillates (6 for each alembic fraction - head, heart and tail; 6 column distillates). The chemical composition of distillates from the same wine was determined using chromatographic techniques. Analytical data were subjected to Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (HCA) allowing discrimination of four clusters according to chemical profiles. Both distillation processes influenced the sugarcane spirits chemical quality since two types of distillates with different quantitative chemical profiles were produced after the elimination of fermentation step influence.
  • Diamond synthesis by lasers: recent progress

Ristić, Gordana S.; Trtica, Milan S.; Miljanić, Šćepan S.

    Resumo em Inglês:

This paper provides an up-to-date critical review of methods for diamond synthesis by lasers. A provisional classification of synthesizing methods is carried out, in order to present a varied and heterogeneous experimental work that is as clear as possible. Laser diamond CVD methods involve chemical processes in a carbon-containing system induced by specific absorption of laser radiation, while diamond PVD methods involve physical processes induced by an intense, highly-directed laser beam. Different methods involving coupled, simultaneous action of lasers and classic CVD agents are suggested and discussed as prospective approaches for diamond synthesis.

  • New strategies for treatment and reuse of spent sulfidic caustic stream from petroleum industry

Paulino, Jéssica Frontino; Afonso, Júlio Carlos

    Resumo em Inglês:

This work examines traditional and new routes for removal of H2S and other sulfur compounds from spent sufidic caustic (SSC). SH- (hydrogenosulfide) and S2- (sulfide) ions were quantitatively oxidized at 25 ºC using H2O2, NaOCl or a spent sulfochromic mixture. SH-/S2- ions were also removed via reaction with freshly prepared iron or manganese hydroxides, or after passing the SSC through strong basic anion exchange resins (OH- form). The treated caustic solution, as well as iron/manganese hydroxides, removed H2S from diesel samples at 25 ºC. SSC treatment via strong basic anion-exchange resins produced the treated caustic solution with the highest free alkalinity.

Magalhães, Antônio Sávio G.; Almeida Neto, Manuel P.; Bezerra, Maslândia N.; Ricardo, Nágila M. P. S.; Feitosa, Judith P. A.

    Resumo em Inglês:

Hydrogels have been prepared by free-radical solution copolymerization of acrylamide and sodium acrylate (NaAc), with molar ratio ranging from 25/75 to 80/20, respectively, using methylene bisacrylamide as the crosslinking agent. A FTIR spectroscopy procedure to determine the acrylate/acrylamide ratio in these hydrogels was proposed based on absorbance at 1410 cm-1 (nCOO-) and 2940 cm-1 (nCH and nCH2). A straight line with a good linear correlation coefficient (0.998) was obtained by plotting the acrylate content (Ac%) versus relative absorbance (Arel = A1410/A2940). Results were confirmed by the amount of sodium cation released in acid medium determined by atomic absorption spectrometry.

    Resumo em Inglês:

Recycling and sustainable development are increasing in importance around the world. In Brazil, the new National Policy on Solid Wastes has prompted discussion on the future of electronic waste (e-waste). Brazil generates the greatest amount of e-waste among Latin American countries. Nevertheless complete recycling, including end processing of e-waste, does not occur in Brazil. This paper discusses the physical and chemical technologies currently used worldwide and in Brazil for printed circuit board recycling, with emphasis on metal recovery and plastic processing. The goal is to put in evidence the important role that chemistry can play in developing cheaper processes to recycle e-waste.
