Habitat selection by two lancehead species (Bothrops moojeni Hoge and B. neuwiedi Wagler) (Serpentes, Viperidae)

Our data regarding the use of the habitat by Bothrops moojeni and B. neuwiedi (Serpentes, Viperidae) was obtained from information related to specimens donated to the Jardim Zoológico de Brasília, Universidade de Brasília, Jardim Botânico do Distrito Federal, and also from a half-captivity experiment. The results show a strong segregation of habitat between both species, with B. neuwiedi largely restricted to open areas, and B. moojeni using mainly the forest and ecotones. There is no significant difference in habitat selection between the individuals maintained isolated and those confined to the same yard. Therefore, one species aparently does not interfere directly in the habitat selection of the other.
