The federal funding for high performance sport at Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Cycle

ABSTRACT

The objective was to analyze the funding and federal public spending on High Performance Sport (HPS) in the Rio 2016 Cycle. This is a research with quantitative and qualitative approach, based on the analysis of documents collected from the Portal Transparência no Esporte and the Portal da Legislação do Governo Federal. In the Rio 2016 Cycle, the Federal Government created different political and legal provisions that sought to elevate Brazil a sports power, they reflected directly on the federal funding of the HPS. The Rio 2016 Cycle's main HPS resources were sponsored byfederal state-owned companies, prognostic contests and lotteries for sports entities, Lei de Incentivo ao Esporte (Sports Incentive Law) and resources from the Brazilian Ministry of Sports.
