ABSTRACT
The objectives of this study were: to relate deliberate play with declarative tactical knowledge in basketball players; to compare the level of declarative tactical knowledge in basketball players with different deliberate play times during their initiation to the sport. A total of 271 under-12 players participated in the study. The IMCTD-Bb, which consists of 17 edited scenes, was used. The Spearman and Mann-Whitney tests were applied. The cutoff points were established in percentiles. A positive relationship was found between the variables (r= 0,275; p< 0,001). Athletes with more deliberate play time had higher scores on the IMCTD-Bb (p<0,001; effect size = 0,356). Prioritizing deliberate play in sports initiation is crucial to improving tactical knowledge and game reading.
