Open-access The concept of teaching for Physical Education professionals at a gym in Santos-SP

ABSTRACT

The aim of the study is to understand the conception of teaching for Physical Education professionals at a gym in Santos, São Paulo. The research, of a qualitative nature, was based on participant observation and semi-structured interviews with four teachers. Data were analyzed through non-a priori categories, revealing three main teaching conceptions: teaching as sociability, as a formative process, and as productivity. While a hierarchical view of teaching predominates, dialogical perspectives coexist - though often constrained by market demands. This scenario underscores the need for structural transformations that prioritize education over commodification.
