Open-access Disability and Intersectionality: (Re)thinking Physical Education and teachers with disabilities

ABSTRACT

The article analyzes the phenomenon of corpolatry in Physical Education, focusing on the challenges faced by teachers with physical disabilities. This study is a theoretical essay that uses a critical approach, investigating how social markers of difference generate oppression and exclusion, based on intersectionality. The essay reflects the theme based on the theoretical conceptualization of intersectionality and results of recent research. Stigmas and prejudices against these professionals are evident. It is concluded that valuing body diversity and professional competence is crucial to promoting an inclusive and equitable environment in Physical Education.
