Between structural inequalities and numerical balances: women’s participation in the scientific production on leisure

ABSTRACT

This study investigated gender differences in the authorship of scientific articles on leisure within the fields of Physical Education and leisure studies in Brazil. A total of 1,021 articles published between 2000 and 2022 in 33 journals were analyzed, with the gender of authors identified. The results reveal a numerical balance in the participation of women more advanced than in other fields. However, the lower presence of women among the most productive researchers highlights the persistence of structural inequalities, indicating that progress toward gender equity still requires continuous efforts.
